3 days to go until the Dorset Team Christmas Fair 2016

The countdown is on for our Dorset Team Christmas Fair 2016, just 3 days to go!

The fair will have 70 stalls run by local Etsy sellers all under one roof with everything from leather craft to art and from jewellery to ceramics. There is something for every one and every budget.

The fair is at the Allendale Centre in Wimborne on Saturday 3rd December 10am - 4pm

Entry is FREE

Maker's Story: 

John uses traditional woodworking skills and techniques to create a true handcrafted feel and style in all of his makes. Each piece is finished in either an oil or wax finish to give them an easy to look after finish. John's aim is to create interesting works that show off their individual character, form and appearance by being pleasing to the eye, sensual to the touch yet remain a functional everyday object. Each item is unique in its shape, appearance and patina. They are all hand crafted from locally sourced sustainable or reclaimed wood.

Each of the Wooden Craft Arts wine racks is designed to display as well as safely store wines or bottles - they are space saving, elegant and innovative. The hot dish trivets will protect your table with style - we particularly love the "plaice" mat trivet, a fabulous expandable trivet in the shape of a fish!

Meet the Sellers - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Lucy From The Cat In The Shoe

Makers Story: 
I am completely self taught. Fabric is a forgiving and flexible media to work with, it can become anything it wishes even if it began its life as something else, An old jumper, an unloved leather jacket, a scrap of lace and an off cut of felt. In my mind these could be a creature, a whimsical being straight from the pages of a book you read as a child.

Each piece is completely hand made by me, I create the patterns and then sew using my very old industrial Singer or I stitch by hand, it depends on the size of the piece and the detail needed. The tiny leather shoes for example are always hand stitched. Sometimes the fabric inspires the piece and sometimes I get an idea in my head and I can't rest until it is made and I have trawled the charity shops and fabric shops for the perfect material.

I work a lot to commission and love to hear your ideas and wants for a piece. My facebook page is full of images of my work and pieces I have created as commissions. I have sold at Rengade Craft fair London, Craftacular London, Etsy Dorset and various local events. I have pieces for sale in the Art Gallery of Ontario Canada, I have also been featured in Stuffed Magazine and various blogs.

Lucy's sculptures are so popular she sells them through the updates in her etsy shop, this is why it often looks empty! You have to be quick to get your hands on one of her pieces over the internet so the Dorset Team craft fair is an excellent opportunity to get your hands on one of her beautiful creatures.

Maker's Story: 
I blame my Mum, her Mum and probably her Mum too and all the little old Aunts that I vaguely remember from my childhood - many a day was spent with arms outstretched whilst someone would be winding wool over to make the next jumper or cardigan! I cant really remember the reasoning (perhaps to just keep us in one place?!).

Taught to knit at 5 and various other crafts at a young age, the passion got bigger over the years (apart from a few twilight years - late teens/early twenties when the pub was more interesting).

My main cardmaking passion came about through personal tragedy when my first son was stillborn. Without dwelling (nor casting it aside but this isn't the place for that story) I became involved in a support group, I met a likeminded fellow mum and we made cards to sell for the charity. From that the passion grew, and luckily for me so did my family! Skip forward a few years (too busy mopping kids and floors!) and I found I had a few spare hours to make cards again for my family and friends. Sunny Bunny was formed. And then I dusted off my sewing machine thanks to a chance remark from a family member and so we have my products today, all stemming from each other and the love of gorgeous fabrics!

I have also recently branched out and made some of my makes available as kits or tutorials. You can find these under the Sew Easy category in my shop. I also run regular workshops in Bournemouth so please convo me if you would like details on those.
