Meet the Seller - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Soph Kinsley from Indie Willow Dorset

Name: Soph Kinsley
Shop Name: Indie Willow Dorset
Located in: Bournemouth Dorset
Sells: Fair trade small leather goods and scarves.

Maker's Story:

In January 2015 I made the decision that I was going to create my own craft business, something I had wanted to do from when I was a teenager.

Whenever I had the opportunity I would draw designs for leather goods at my kitchen table in Dorset. I would then methodically make each design up as a prototype in card to check they worked and would be really usable!

Fair Trade is an essential part of the Indie Willow Dorset ethos . When you buy our products you are buying handmade goods from artisans who hand craft each individual item using age old traditional techniques. In an age when everyone wants a bargain it is a sad fact that 'bargains' can often be to the detriment of the people making them.

Buying our products ensures that our Indian artisans receive an exceptionally good wage to enable them to support their families. It affords them honest and fair working hours, it affords them excellent working conditions and prevents them from spending unholy hours slumped over a machine earning peanuts for their exceptional skills.

Dorset Team Christmas Fair: Soph from Indie Willow Dorset will be selling Fair Trade leather goods and scarves  at the Dorset Team Christmas Fair on Saturday 3rd December at the Allendale Centre in Wimborne.

Please come along, meet Soph and our other makers and sellers.

Doors open at 10am and close at 4pm and it is free entry.

Meet the Seller - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Rachel from DAISYandARTHUR

Name: Rachel Vivian
Shop Name: DAISYandARTHUR
Located in: Wimbourne, UK
Sells: Crochet Cards & Decor

Maker's Story: My name is Rachel and I adore all things colourful and crochet! I was introduced to the world of crafts by my gorgeous grandparents, Daisy and Arthur, with whom I spent many glorious hours as a child, hanging out in Granddad's woodwork shed or being patiently taught crochet and embroidery by Gran.

Having grown up, I forgot about my crochet hook and went on to work in the world of finance. However, becoming increasingly disillusioned with never ending targets and deadlines, I felt a renewed need to get creative once again. So, having hit 40, I decided to take the plunge and do something I love for a change.

It gives me immense satisfaction to create something special and unique out of a simple ball of wool, a few buttons and beads; I put my heart into each and every piece. I hope this shines through. I also adore the idea of giving a contemporary twist to a vintage craft.

My aim is to create beautiful and unique quality items with care and attention to detail, which help turn your house into a home. My daughter recently commented that she believes our whole house will be covered in crochet within ten years! I wouldn't mind if it were, but it did prompt me to think that I should probably find an outlet for my crochet addiction!

Please come along, meet Rachel and our other makers and sellers.

Meet the Seller - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Lauren from Apulina

Name: Lauren
Shop Name: Apulina
Located in: Bournemouth
Sells: Needle Felt Animals and More

Maker's Story:
I started felting several years ago and didn't stop! I love working with wool, I use a variety of wools from different sheep breeds using a technique called needle felting to build up layers of wool to create three dimensional animals and art work such as pet portraits and cards for special occasions. I also love a challenge, so if you want something made in felt drop me a message! With felting you are only limited by your imagination. Even better is harnessing the ideas of the children whose drawings I make come to life in felt. Now they really do have some talent! I am also a trained teacher and teach needle felt classes. If you are in east Dorset and fancy learning how to needle felt then drop me a line. It is a great activity for hen parties, getting together for a natter, teenage parties etc.

Dorset Team Christmas Fair: Lauren will be selling her needle felted animals, cards and gifts at the Dorset Team Christmas Fair on Saturday 3rd December at the Allendale Centre in Wimborne.

Please come along, meet Lauren and our other makers and sellers.
