Social Media Special - Twitter

We are starting some new blog post topics here at the Dorset Team blog. The first Wednesday of each month will be a Social Media Special post - focusing on a different social media each week, and ideas on how to use them!

Our first feature is about Twitter:  https://twitter.com/

How many of you use Twitter? Do you know that we run a Dorset Team Twitter Chat each week?

For those of you who are new to Twitter...

Some Twitter Basics:

  • It's a constantly updating feed of small snippets (or 'tweets') of news or chat - maximum 280 characters long (the limit used to be 140 characters and was increased in Nov 2017)
  • Hashtags play a large part of tweets - helping you find new people to follow, keep up with trending topics, and join in with Twitter chats
  • Twitter chats are scheduled time slots, usually an hour long, when people use the same hashtag to chat together and share each others tweets - it's a great chance to network
  • Tweets can be easily re-tweeted - shared to someone else's twitter profile. So don't share anything on twitter that you wouldn't want other people to possibly share on their feeds
  • You can add photos, videos, html links, and more to your tweets
  • You can search twitter to find people or hashtags - if you want to try it out then go and search #DorsetTeam to see what the team has been sharing lately!
You can see a twitter starting guide here to find out more details: https://help.twitter.com/en/twitter-guide

Your tweets can be business like - sharing new products, behind the scenes, special offers etc, or they can be chatty - what you've been up to, what the weather is like, a recent purchase you are excited about. Reply to other people's tweets and it might turn into a conversation - other people can read it too while you are tweeting, so more people might join in and reply too (you can also send people private messages, as long as they follow you on Twitter).

If you are new to Twitter, or if you haven't used it as much as you should, then jump on and say something right now! Make sure you follow some people and get interacting too. Make sure you include the #DorsetTeam hashtag so we can see your tweet!

Our Twitter hour is Tuesday from 7.30pm - 8.30pm. The Dorset Team Twitter profile (https://twitter.com/DorsetTeam) will post questions to get the chat started, and you can join in as much or as little as you want. Come and say 'hi' next Tuesday!

Next month on the first Wednesday we will be talking about Instagram. If you missed our blog post last week about the March Meet The Maker Instagram challenge then check it out here: https://dorsetteam.blogspot.com/2018/02/march-meet-maker.html

Next week we will be sharing another new blog topic, check back on Wednesday!

Cosy & Cuddly + Tell Your Sellers Story: Treasury Tuesday & Twitter Hour Reminders

Hello lovelies! I'm down to crunch time with this reminder but, in case you haven't been onto Etsy or any of the other social media platforms it never hurts to have another reminder of today's themes for Treasury Tuesday and the Twitter Chat!

If you still haven't posted a treasury, don't worry, Tuesday isn't over and there's still time to curate a lovely treasury. Today's theme is Cosy & Cuddly. Let's see your many cosy and cuddle worthy favourite items from the team!

Twitter Chat tonight is all about telling your seller story, what inspired you to start selling and how are you expanding this via social media platforms.

Twitter chat starts at 7:30pm and lasts for an hour. Please remember to use the hashtag #dorsetteam and be following @DorsetTeam on twitter for a lovely chat with other team members!

Have a beautiful rest of your week!

Gorgeous Greens: Treasury Tuesday Themes and Twitter Chat Recap and New Theme

Hello lovelies! It's that time again in the week! Treasury Tuesday theme time and Twitter Chat!

Last week's Treasury Tuesday theme was Afternoon Tea and there were some lovely treasuries created. In case you still aren't sure what a treasury is or what one even looks like, here's a link to an example by our own Rachel of TheDorothyDays. One treasury a week is featured on the blog so why not go ahead and make one this week with the theme Gorgeous Greens? You could be featured! Don't forget to post your treasury link to the forum thread on Etsy and also share it on twitter and other social media with the hashtag #dorsetteam for sharing around social media.

Our Twitter Chat last week, for those of you who were unable to attend, was a social chat. We had a blast getting to know one another, those of us who participated, and it was lovely to just connect on a different level other than just tips and tricks for our Etsy shops. It is just as important to make personal connections with fellow sellers and also with customers as it is to help each other out with tips about selling on our preferred platform. Personal relations are vital to making our businesses flow. My favourite question of last week's chat was 'What is the story behind the name for your shop?" Our answers ranged from being inspired by poetry, to being inspired by names of the past, to realising just who we were making things for and finding inspiration in that (as KnittedbyAuntyEmma did), to finding inspiration in your cultural identity as was the case for our very own MissPajuCraft who originally hails from Venezuela.

All in all, we had a lovely time getting to know one another and more friendships were formed as a result. This week's Twitter Chat theme is: Selling at Events.

If you have done so in the past, are considering doing so and even if you've never sold at an event this Twitter chat is worth checking out and getting in on. I am certain that the veterans of the team who have had lots of experience in this will be most helpful in giving us pointers, helping us know what things are do's and don'ts of selling at events and will be open to discussion on things that are just not easy to wrap our heads around.

So, just to remind you one last time of the themes and schedules for today:

Treasury Tuesday: Gorgeous Greens and you have all day to make yours.
Twitter Chat: Selling at Events; be sure to get on Twitter for 7:30pm and that you are following @DorsetTeam and use #dorsetteam hashtag when replying to questions so everyone can interact.

Look forward to seeing you on there and to seeing your treasuries!

Cheers!
