Dorset Team Events 2023

 

Lots of people have been asking for a run down of our Dorset Team events for 2023 so here they all are…! Our events have been running for over 10 years now - thank you so much for all your support and we hope that you will enjoy this year’s events.  We are the local Etsy team for Dorset so are primarily Etsy sellers but we have also opened up our events to other local makers, creatives and indie shops to join us which is a really exciting addition and means we can bring you even more diverse, beautiful and unique hand picked stalls for our events. There will be stalls by Dorset Team makers and sellers who create crafts inspired by nature, as well as talks, themed walks and workshops, live entertainment and a flower and herb menu by Cherries Café.   Dorset Team Winter Fair 2023 Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November 2023 10am - 4pm  Allendale Centre in Wimborne https://www.facebook.com/events/1286160578833660 FREE ENTRY  Our ever popular Winter Fair - a chance to do some early Christmas shopping from our 60 makers and sellers all under one roof A Dorset Christmas Fair 2023 Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th November 2023 10am - 4pm  The Tank Museum - Bovington (near Wareham) https://www.facebook.com/events/442175061413841/ Ticketed event  Within the incredible venue of the Tank Museum in Bovington is our biggest event of the year with over 100 stalls by Dorset Team makers and sellers each day selling a wide variety of different crafts. There will also be a mini food market within the event where you can pick up festive treats with everything from artisan gins to locally made chocolates. Santa will also be making an appearance and, with this being the Tank Museum, he will be arriving on a tank of course! He will be doing laps of the tank arena before coming into the venue to meet the children. Live entertainment with will run throughout the day. A full festive day/ weekend out. Meet the seller - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Linda from Ndiehs Designs

Sells: Handmade bags and accessories made from fabric that Linda designed as well as jewellery.

Maker's Story: Linda has always loved making things by hand and picked up her sewing skills from her mother as a little girl. It was however the tragic loss of her baby in December 2013 which made her want to start her own craft business. 

Linda explains..."Being on maternity leave with no baby to nurse was dreadful so I slowly found the strength (which didn't come easily) to 'escape' from the emptiness I felt deep within. While I was pregnant, I had lots of inspiration and made things for my baby (i.e. nappy bag, blanket, beddings, etc.). So one of the ways to find comfort and honour my baby's life was to try and not let the wonderful inspiration die. I carried on sewing and went to craft fairs to get away from it all and face life.

Since then, I have met some wonderful people I network with, they inspire me and I enjoy my craft even more and more.

Right now I'm building my own brand and my hope is not just for it to grow but to touch others out there who may be faced with tragedy/difficulties of all sorts and find it hard to pick themselves up. My message to them is "You can live again and enjoy life, for you're stronger than your obstacles"."

Linda likes making items which are both functional and pretty at the same time. Her items range from cool and calm to bright and bold.

Meet the seller - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Carara Designs UK

Sells: Handmade handbags, childrens tepees and gifts and homewares

Maker's Story: I started my company over 12 years ago and work from home on the south coast in my little shed often with my toy poodle Lucia. I design and make handbags, children tepees and home wares.

My designs have a distinctive style from my use of vintage, remnant and salveged fabrics including tapestries and embroideries. My favourite part of designing is adding the embellishments, I use old buttons, vintage lace, brooches, broken jewellery, and anything else I have collected in my various tins that I think may come in useful one day!

I use a range of techniques my favourite being hand and machine embroidery, appliqué, patchwork and I always design and cut my own patterns often cutting straight from the cloth. I am completely self taught it has been a case of trial and error over the years but now have a confidence in my ability and work and because I rarley use a pattern it adds to the individuality of each piece I produce which is my whole ethos of unique one-off design.

Maker's Story: I'm inspired by the woods, the seas and the things in between!

Living in the great Dorset countryside, I can't help but be inspired by the nature surrounding me, and that I have grown up with. British wildlife and summertime is at the heart of my designs, featuring dragonflies, honey bees, frogs, starfish and seahorses to name a few. I also design jewellery with summer music festivals and travel in mind, featuring bells, feathers and boho charms. I began making jewellery when I worked in a craft shop age 16, now at 26 I have my own business making and designing jewellery that I love to wear, and I hope you do to! I work from my home on beautiful Portland here in Dorset (UK). Portland is very unique and only connected to the mainland by a section of the mighty 17 mile long Jurassic Chesil beach! It's no end of inspiration for marine inspired jewellery, and very popular with locals and tourists alike in the neighbouring harbour town of Weymouth.

Meet the Seller - Dorset Team Christmas Fair - Ruth from Satis House Five

Sells: Lightboxes, jewellery & supplies for fellow crafters

Maker's Story: I started my shop in 2011 selling mainly Jewellery before discovering a passion for making Light Boxes - this has definitely taken over my creative work and whilst I love working with different types of media (paper, metal, fabric, etc) the boxes are now my main focus.

I have only been making Light Boxes since 2014. This was a complete accident as I came upon the idea completely by surprise: having reluctantly agreed to accompany my husband into an old Photography shop, there was an old dusty box of Magic Lantern Slides. I completely fell in love with them and decided I had to do something with them to bring them back to life. I decided that the slides needed to be lit in order to bring them back to life. From there, I then developed the vintage style light boxes - instead of using slides, I use images I love that are printed on a thick tracing paper.
I make all boxes from scratch, I can do custom orders too. My next project is to create Light Boxes using 35mm slides so watch this space!
