It was great to spend time getting to know team members both old and new (to the team!) within a relaxed environment. We also raised some money for Macmillan Cancer support- just over £45. Some of us showed projects we were working on and we all bought a little handmade prize for a lucky dip (I was really pleased with my gift- a beautiful beaded collar!) Lynn even made a beaded bracelet whilst we chatted. A lot of chat was about the upcoming craft fairs and how each person was preparing for them as well as feedback and advice to anyone with any questions (e.g. where's a good place to buy...) offering invaluable information.
It was agreed by all that we should do something similar again soon and hopefully have an even better turnout next time!

A Very British Meet up!
I had a lovely time yesterday at our monthly meet up. Nicolette was kind enough to host the event in her lovely home. We had lots of tea and cake all in the name of charity! Here are most of us, including Ralph who was very excited by all the visitors!

Pinterest Module
This September, as a team, we are looking at Pinterest. Lizz Parris-Bryant from MidSummerLily has been kind enough to volunteer to organise this for us all!
The way we approach these modules is fairly laid back (hopefully!) in order to appeal to everyone. The Dorset Team is large (and fast growing) and it is therefore impossible to pitch the modules to each individual level.
This means we have absolute beginners who (to use this month's subject as an example) don't have a Pinterest account at one end of the spectrum and at the other, those who have been a keen pinner for a while, know a substantial amount and gain sales via the Pinterest platform.
We 'meet' weekly online; each Tuesday evening from 8pm until 9pm via the Dorset Team thread page (you have to be a member to access this).
We started on Tuesday- missed it? It's easy to catch up, why not join in now?! You can be as active in the discussion as you'd like!
Think you're a Pinterest Professor?! Join in and help the members who are getting started or need help.
I have always found the modules to be a big help and yes, it can be a bit hectic as life tends to get in the way a bit so you may be conducting the chat whilst wrestling children into bed or cooking and eating tea but, it's a great way of getting to know other team members as well as learning something.
Hope to see some new faces as well as the week one pinners next week! If you want more information, please comment here or visit the team page: https://www.etsy.com/teams/14319/dorset-etsy-team

Upcoming Craft Fairs
It's very exciting to be part of the Dorset Team at the moment. Some of our team members are busy behind the scenes organising not one, but two craft fairs! Here is some info regarding the fairs...I will add more details as we get closer to the dates.
Our Autumn Craft Fair will be taking place on 26th October at Hoburne Park and it is now fully booked! The stall holders are a mixture of art and craft makers, most of whom sell on Etsy.
We have another Craft Fair at Christmas, this time exclusively for Etsy Shop owners and this will be in Wimborne on 6th December. There are a few places left as this post goes to press!
I'm looking forward to sharing with you the makers who have booked their stalls- both fairs are set to be wonderful events, if previous Craft Fairs are anything to go by.
We are already showcasing some of the lovely items our team members are going to be selling at these events so watch out for treasuries and information on here too!

It's Not Quite Autumn Here Yet
We've still got plenty of green leaves and a few flowers blooming here in Dorset! Here's a bunch I picked from the talented makers of the Dorset Team, all based in this lovely English County. Enjoy!

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning Event

Hi All,
For our monthly get together this September, we will be fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support. I'm sure everyone is aware of the important work the charity does but if you would like more information and even some tips and recipes for the day, please visit their website: http://coffee.macmillan.org.uk
The event will take place in Christchurch from 10.30am. For more information, please send your email address to Nicolette via her Etsy page: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/NicoletteDawn
During the event we thought it would be fun to donate a small craft item you've made and then charge for a lucky dip. That way we not only raise some money but we all go home with a lovely handmade item.
We thought the Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning (MacMillan's biggest fundraising event) would be a great opportunity to meet up and also raise a little money for this deserving cause.
I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones!

Being part of The Dorset Team
Hi there!
This post is another introductory post aiming to explain what being part of the Dorset Team means...
The Dorset Team exists within Etsy. There are two requirements for being part of the Team: firstly that team members live in Dorset, UK and secondly; that each team member has a shop on Etsy. (If this isn't making sense, please refer to earlier posts which should answer any questions).
Rachel who runs TheDorothyDays created the Dorset Team and is the captain. She runs the team enthusiastically and tirelessly with the help of three leaders; Emma (MardleMade), Sarah (DeliciousBits) and Lynn (Nemeton) and of course lots of team members doing various jobs. If you want to take a look at their shops and find out a bit more about them (and the rest of the team), please take a look here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/teams/14319/dorset-etsy-team/members
The Dorset Team is a rich community with shops ranging from prints, jewellery, knitted and crochet clothing, sculpture, patterns, paintings, vintage items and lots in between. We have shop owners who are very experienced and have their own retail outlets that run alongside their Etsy endeavours, to others who are just starting out and are finding the process a little daunting. Wherever someone is on that spectrum, we are all learning from each other and meeting people from across the county with similar interests who can provide ideas, support and a friendly face!
Want more? Being part of the team allows members to be part of themed workshops. (For example, a recent workshop involved a live group webchat about Search Engine Optimisation (that basically means how to get your items noticed more)) Workshops take place throughout the year and cover a range of topics so you can opt in to ones relevant to you.
The Dorset Team has Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest accounts all promoting Team Members' items. The Dorset Team page on Etsy also does this by making treasuries with team member items.
There are two craft Fairs planned for this year (more info to come). The stalls are only open to Dorset Team Members and the aim is for more team fairs in the future.
We aim to meet once a month and change the location in order to try to suit everyone regarding travel arrangements. (Info to follow regarding the September meeting).
By being part of the Dorset Team, you are joining a community which is ever growing and developing. If you're a member, you can have as much or as little input as you'd like into helping to shape the Dorset Team into something which is helpful and inspirational to it's members.
So if you're not a team member already and you do meet the criteria, what are you waiting for?! https://www.etsy.com/uk/teams/14319/dorset-etsy-team

Etsy Explained
For anyone unsure of what Etsy is, here is a brief explanation.
Etsy is an online marketplace for individuals to run their own shop.
Most shops showcase items made by craft makers/designers/jewellers etc. Other shops can sell vintage items or supplies or a mixture of all three.
Etsy continues to grow and boasts shops from all over the world allowing buyers an opportunity to shop for truly unique items.
To take a look at the site, please head to the following address: www.etsy.com
If you are interested in starting your own shop, it's really simple and the website provides information on this. Once you have created a shop, it is well worth having a look at 'Teams'. The Teams are communities you can request to join and are categorised for example, by area or type of craft.
The Dorset Team is a community where all members are based in Dorset and each have an online Etsy shop. The Dorset Team is run by volunteers and now has over 300 members. If you wish to become part of the Team, please don't hesitate! https://www.etsy.com/uk/teams/14319/dorset-etsy-team
There will be a post soon with more information about the Dorset Team including all the benefits of being part of such a great community!
